Content as a Networking Tool: A #CMWorld Chat with Andy Crestodina

Andy-Crestodina-photo_rev-333x170Content marketing is so closely tied to digital, but opportunities abound for in person connections as well. This past week, Andy Crestodina, joined us for a conversation around how to use content to help you network. If you don’t know Andy, he is the creator of the very clever video he captured at Content Marketing World, Ask It Forward: 26 Questions for 26 Marketers as well as last year’s Content Marketing World Yearbook. (You can see this year’s edition spearheaded by Amy Higgins.)

If you are an introvert looking for ways to meet new people in a less awkward way or you just want to get some great ideas on how you can create great content, this is the chat for you.

Join us for future #CMWorld chats every Tuesday at noon ET. You can see the schedule of upcoming chats as well as transcripts from all previous chats.

Q1: Content marketing is so focused on digital. Should we be looking for offline opportunities as well? #CMWorld

A1:Yes! Social is part of content marketing. And offline (face2face) is the highest quality social interaction. #cmworld

@crestodina

A1: The best content marketers are constantly networking. The very best use the phone, in-person meetings and live events… #cmworld

@crestodina

A1: Content = Collaboration = Networking = New Friends!! #cmworld

@crestodina

A1: Speaking at events is a great way to garner thought leadership points. #CMWorld

@SueBrady

A1: My favourite offline content marketing opportunities are presentations, e.g., @BPL_inthecity #cmworld

@lindadessau

A1: “The best content marketers constantly networking. Use phone, in-person meetings and live events” @crestodina #cmworld

@orbiteers

A1: Yes, something printed – if thoughtfully created & packed with valuable info – can stand out in the sea of digital noise. #CMWorld

@karrabarron

A1: Live events are a type of content, right? In fact, they’re the most effective based on the survey… http://contentmarketinginstitute.com/2013/10/2014-b2b-content-marketing-research/ #cmworld

@crestodina

A1 – There’s no online without the offline. Content comes from people. If it appears on a screen or on paper it still holds value. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

@crestodina #CMWorld A1 Ah yes, the phone. You forget you can actually talk on that thing.

@magriebler

A1. Nothing beats face to face interactions – which are made easier/better if you have a digital connection leading up to it. #cmworld

@dwheeler11

Absolutely. The best content marketing strategies contain a mix of organic and digital outreach #CMWorld @CMIContent

@ThinkMoncur

Offline publishing can enhance online initiatives. #CMWorld

@CTrappe

@zuulaconsulting @crestodina Be sure to use the #CMWorld hashtag so everyone sees your tweets! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

networking at in person events gives you great contacts to tap into when you need expert opinions/interviews in content #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@kelcesarz Us too! Well, at least one of our favorites. Love it! #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@dwheeler11 So true, and then it works the other way. Love seeing you here because I can picture your smiling face at #cmworld 🙂

@lindadessau

A1: Yes! This is what I preach at work all the time. Just like in your life, #contentmarketing isn’t just digital. #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

A1: Offline interactions provide the fuel for the content and are fueled by it #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

@CMIContent A1: Yes, content marketing should involve all aspects of content/be in line with your brand and useful non-digitally. #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

Hi @crestodina Is there a “best” way to measure content effectiveness & ROI? #CMWorld

@ProfessionalPen

@magriebler Handwritten notes are also a great way to follow up / network. Titally under-rated! #cmworld

@crestodina

A1: I’ve already started nurturing offline connections thinking about #CMWorld 2015!

@cmcphillips

A1: Content marketing should be fueled by offline networking & vice versa. Use content as talking points at events or meetings. #CMWorld

@kelcesarz

A1:’Expert’ Interviews( by phone) are a great way to generate online content. #CMWorld

@SueBrady

A1: we’ve found that establishing a connection before, THEN face2face enhances the connection once you meet #cmworld

@CrowdContent

Offline and online stories should align. #CMWorld

@CTrappe

@tracibrowne And, you can tap into your expanded social network to get that content from your new friends! #cmworld

@dwheeler11

#cmworld A1) You can forget a digital contact, but never a physical one. any offline opps like Meetups are great.

@KevinWaugh

@tracibrowne Yep! IMO, it’s similar to the reporter/source relationship. Provide enough value and you’ve got good data on tap! #cmworld

@cmtrapolino

MT @crestodina: @magriebler Handwritten notes are also a great way to follow up / network. Totally under-rated! #cmworld

@lindadessau

@crestodina A1 So many events, so little time. How do you decide where to invest your time? #CMWorld

@magriebler

A1 – Content should be the catalyst to something more. Whether it’s more content, face-to-face meeting, presentation, or whatever. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

@ProfessionalPen Traffic x Conversion Rate = Success. That’s the best quantitative way. But friends are the best qualitative way. #cmworld

@crestodina

@lindadessau You will get some great notes today, Linda! @crestodina is amazing! #CMWorld

@pamelamuldoon

A1. You’ll never know what someone else could teach you if you don’t try to make a real connection #CMWorld @CMIContent

@amymersch

@crestodina A1 And there’s the lovely element of surprise: Mail that’s not junk! #CMWorld

@magriebler

Q2: Asking people to participate in creating a piece of content at an in-person event can be a great way to network. Any ideas? #CMWorld

Better late than never?? High tweet volume for an exciting 51 remaining minutes. 🙂 #cmworld

@bldchris

A1: Ignoring offline marketing means missing real-world opportunities. You must be comprehensive. #CMWorld

@ScribbleEngage

@CMIContent Face to face interactions are still extremely important. It’s great when online connections become offline connections. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@pamelamuldoon @crestodina I know, I’m still working through my notes from his intensive at #cmworld 😉

@lindadessau

@magriebler When @IanCleary goes to events, he focuses on people. He skips ALL the sessions and watches the recordings later! #CMWorld

@crestodina

@KevinWaugh Agree – great point! Better for sales teams as well! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

A2: If you’re not making friends, you’re doing it wrong #contentmarketing #cmworld

@crestodina

A2: People love giving their opinions. Organizing this at an event is a great idea! #CMWorld

@SueBrady

A2 – Absolutely. It also brings greater value to the content itself through different perspectives and opinions. Everyone wins.

@gShiftLabs

A1: Offline can be content delivery (speaking, training), content research & networking to deepen relationships and make new ones #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

A2: Everyone at events wants to collaborate on content. Make up a random reason, and you’ve got an excuse to meet everyone. #cmworld

@crestodina

@crestodina One more way @IanCleary is brilliant. Great example for others. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

A1: Content marketing IS story telling. Stories can’t be online only. They start offline and so should content marketers #CMWorld

@amywhiggins

Give people a reason to contribute and share at live events… Make it fun, promote their personal brand… They’ll be happy too! #CmWorld

@iSocialFanz

A2: Everyone has expertise they want to share. Give them the chance! #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

A2: Co-creation sure beats the old ‘ice breaker’ stuff (remember the 90s?) #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

A2) If social networks are an online cocktail party, why not embrace the real life cocktail party? Be human. Converse. #cmworld

@bldchris

Hey all, sorry for the tardiness! Dusty here from Kitterman Marketing in Seattle. #cmworld

@KittermanMG

Ace advice! @magriebler @crestodina #CMWorld

@ThinkMoncur

A2 hard to meet people will set aside time to be interviewed for an article. Starts the relationship off doing something for them #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@crestodina It means you aren’t being human enough. That needs to change! #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

“@crestodina: A2: If you’re not making friends, you’re doing it wrong #contentmarketing #cmworld” Content that helps builds trust!

@iSocialFanz

A2: Yes! People love to be a part of something. If they are passionate about it, of course they want to generate content about it #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

@KittermanMG Hi Dusty! Thanks for joining us today! On Q2, so you didn’t miss much! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

A2: I’ve made so many friends this way, I can’t begin to explain how awesome this is. #CMWorld

@crestodina

A2: The live chats we host and the experts and audiences who participate in them are invaluable resources for us #CMWorld

@ScribbleEngage

@crestodina A2 Love the focus on relationships first. That’s the driver. #CMWorld

@magriebler

A2 – How one person/business approaches a particular issue will inevitably be different than others. Every group will be unique. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

A2: I’m still getting comments on the “Ask it Forward” video. So simple. So much fun. http://www.orbitmedia.com/blog/26-questions-26-content-marketers/ #cmworld

@crestodina

A2: Yearbooks are the best way to make friends. Like https://storify.com/amywhiggins/cmwyearbook #CMworld

@amywhiggins

A2. People like to feel included – asking for input does that + gives you concrete results. The mighty power of collaboration! #cmworld

@dwheeler11

A2: I’m starting to think it’s a waste to go to a conference WITHOUT a content/collaboration idea. #cmworld

@crestodina

A2: Oh, and ask your customers, especially at an event. Great way to get content. #CMWorld

@SueBrady

@mikemyers614 Blast from the past. Just the word “ice-breakers” makes us cringe. Not authentic enough. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

Sparking the conversation is a great way to bounce ideas off each other. Interacting in person can lead to beautiful content! #CMWorld

@ThinkMoncur

@crestodina That was a great one! #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

A2: Find other experts in your target industry & ask them to guest blog their opinion on a certain topic- engage online & offline. #CMWorld

@kelcesarz

A2: We did a video asking ppl what quality content is in their opinion at #cmworld 2014. Built solid connections AND got quality research

@CrowdContent

@lttlewys Hi Brandie! Nice to ‘see’ you here on the #CMWorld chat!

@pamelamuldoon

A2 when you are interviewing someone for an article, you find out so much more about them than you would engaging in small talk #cmworld

@tracibrowne

A2b) With offline encounters, you can get way past the character limit and get new ideas as you talk. Be yourself and don’t be shy. #cmworld

@bldchris

Good events focus on networking!!! GREAT events focus on finding ways to build & grow as a community! #CmWorld

@iSocialFanz

@iSocialFanz Nice new pic! We thought we had a new friend then saw it was an old friend. 🙂 #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@RtMixMktg Good point! Meeting in person deepens online relationships #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

@TrainingCEO I have a funny feeling my editing will slow down a lot for the next 45 minutes. 😉 #CMWorld

@pamelamuldoon

A2 I’ve started interviewing folks in my network just that IRL opp. #CMWorld

@magriebler

@CMIContent awe thanks… Yeah try to change it up every once in awhile… Cheers! #CMWorld

@iSocialFanz

This year @amywhiggins took over the yearbook. Amazing job. Amy, share the link! #cmworld

@crestodina

@tracibrowne Great point! What a great way to gather content and really get to know someone in the process. #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@CMIContent When interviewing someone in your field, do it in person or over the phone. Much more personal than sending an email. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@amandalgant @crestodina @iancleary @annhandley @markwschaefer We loved this! Brilliant! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@RtMixMktg @amywhiggins I so love this yearbook thing! Nice. 🙂 #cmworld

@bldchris

@crestodina It’s here https://storify.com/amywhiggins/cmwyearbook #CMWorld

@amywhiggins

@ThinkSEM @CMIContent And record it! (Ask first.) #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

@iSocialFanz What are some of your favorite events/conferences? #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@pamelamuldoon @TrainingCEO Multitastking is overrated! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@crestodina So, what are some of your favorite ideas/collaborations? #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

Speaking of Twitter chats, follow #CMWorld right now to get into the #ContentMarketing trenches!

@Ebyline

Q3: From the perspective of an average event attendee, how are people most receptive to sharing? Writing? Video? Audio? #CMWorld

@pamelamuldoon @TrainingCEO My editing has pretty much come to a halt at this point. 🙂 #CMWorld

@amymersch

@amandalgant Hi Amanda! Great to see you on today’s #CMWorld chat! 🙂

@pamelamuldoon

@cmtrapolino @CMIContent Yes and yes! It helps a lot with transcribing the interview after. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

A2: Find other experts in your target industry & ask them to guest blog their opinion on a certain topic- engage online & offline. #CMWorld

@kelcesarz

A3) I never get to leave my lair so I’m looking forward to the answers on this one… 🙂 #cmworld

@bldchris

@ThinkSEM Big fan of #SocialFresh & #SMMW and after following online last 2 years #CMworld & #Inbound are on my calendar in 2015!

@iSocialFanz

A3: Event attendees are very receptive to sharing their event photos. #cmworld

@pisarose

@zuulaconsulting @crestodina One of my favorite was the #cmworld yearbook. It was a lot of people to signing a notebook / sharing advice

@crestodina

@bldchris Ha! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@iSocialFanz Awesome! We are going to look into those. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@iSocialFanz @ThinkSEM Brian, are we finally going to get to meet someday? Maybe at a conference next year? #cmworld

@crestodina

@CMIContent People are most receptive when they get to choose from several options, I’ve found. More diverse sharing is good. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

A1: Content marketing should be fueled by offline networking & vice versa. Use content as talking points at events or meetings. #CMWorld

@kelcesarz

@bldchris We’ll have to find a way to get you to #CMWorld 2015. 🙂

@CMIContent

A3: It’s rare that people don’t want to collaborate. Only 1 out of 160 declined to sign the 1st #CMWorld Yearbook. 🙂

@crestodina

A3. I found the people are usually more than willing to. Just got to ask! People love to collaborate and share. #cmworld

@KittermanMG

@CMIContent A2 TY! Gets those of us who work at home out of the darn house. #CMWorld

@magriebler

@CMIContent videos and photographs always tend to get more shares and engagement in our industry. Probably every industry #CMWorld

@ThinkMoncur

A3: They will share things that are fun/engaging/rewarding regardless of medium. #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

@CMIContent As an introvert I prefer to think through my answers in writing versus having to perform on camera 😉 #cmworld

@lindadessau

@magriebler Agree! Right there with you. #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

@cmtrapolino @CMIContent Absolutely. Any way to get people involved in the event is a good thing. Connections happen everywehre. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

A3 – Each media has its ‘sweet spot’ of length/format/message. If you can pinpoint each, then each one will entice sharing. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

A3: A lot of marketers wake up in the morning HOPING to be interviewed, to collaborate. Wveryone likes to share their opinion. #cmworld

@crestodina

@ProfessionalPen What editing? hahaha! 😉 #CMWorld Twitter Chat wins!

@pamelamuldoon

A3. Different people prefer different media for sharing. Most prefer something that is easy for them – like being interviewed. #cmworld

@dwheeler11

A3: Event attendees are very receptive to sharing anonymous content–e.g., answering a ? via a Post-It wall in a booth. #cmworld

@pisarose

I hate spur of moment videos…Not only do I have to worry abt stringing a coherent thought together, have to worry abt how I look #cmworld

@tracibrowne

A3: Most people will share if they are included, taking pics, saying there name, thanking them! #CMWorld

@lttlewys

A3: People seem to best respond when you ask them about their area of expertise (everyone is an expert at something!). #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

@crestodina @iSocialFanz @ThinkSEM Thinking #CMWorld is the ideal location!

@CMIContent

@crestodina Great point! Who doesn’t want to have their opinion sought? #cmworld

@bldchris

@crestodina We didn’t have many decline this year’s #CMWorld Yearbook. More not knowing what to say.

@amywhiggins

@tracibrowne Super samesies. I’m camera shy AND an introvert, so give me a keyboard, please! 🙂 #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

@ThinkSEM Plus, you typically get more candid answers from an oral interview than when someone gets to type (and retype) answers! #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

@crestodina A3 And I love that you have that number on the tip of your fingers. Quantify everything! #CMWorld

@magriebler

A3: They might be shy at first, but most people like to be in video. If you let them set the stage, they’ll be more comfortable… #cmworld

@crestodina

A3: Give people something worth sharing, encourage a little and they’ll do it through their most comfortable channels #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

A3: The yearbook was a content idea, but it was really about networking. Any excuse to meet/collaborate!http://www.orbitmedia.com/blog/meet-event/ #cmworld

@crestodina

@crestodina A3 We can make that wish come true. #CMWorld

@magriebler

@orbiteers @amywhiggins What a great idea! #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@cmtrapolino or at least give me time to think about the questions…this is why I write instead of speak 😉 #cmworld

@tracibrowne

A3: Any brands hampered by release forms for sharing opinions at the show/booth? #cmworld

@pisarose

@crestodina and group discussions can help make this more comfortable. #CMWorld

@SueBrady

@lindadessau @tracibrowne The struggle is real! #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

A3: In my experience, event-goers love to get involved and share content! I know I do! #CMWorld

@LaTokarz

A3: Video offers attendees a chance to shine, show their personality and makes it fun and entices more online engagement. #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

@mikemyers614 A3 Or where they’re doing some interesting learning. #CMWorld

@magriebler

@pamelamuldoon @lttlewys Little personal touches go a long way #cmworld

@KittermanMG

There are a huge percentage of people in this stream that I met at #CMWorld. And I think of you as friends. You know who you are! #cmworld

@crestodina

A3: Content Marketers/Social peeps are always willing to share content. The hard part is non-marketers. #CMWorld

@amywhiggins

@TrainingCEO Comfort is key – I like that. Much more willing to share via LI or twitter than FB on things. #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

@crestodina Maybe some day, for now I’m happy to be an adoring fan 😉 #cmworld

@lindadessau

@zuulaconsulting True. They elaborate more and sometimes the conversation is pulled in a new, brilliant direction. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@cmtrapolino @tracibrowne Further proof that multiple channels are better than one! #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

@cmcphillips Same here. Definitely have preferred channels for different content #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

@cmtrapolino @lindadessau @tracibrowne I’m with you. I’d be a better subject if given time to prepare. #CMWorld

@amymersch

A3 theoretical answer) If you engage with someone you can always ask them what, if any format, they prefer for contribution? #cmworld

@bldchris

@pisarose release forms are so painful – can you share “off the record”, not on behalf of your organization? #cmworld

@dwheeler11

My experience with event-related social sharing is great write-up of the event or particular speaker goes the farthest #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

A3: Quoting other experts from the event. I like showing I’m interested in their POVs, listening, and engaging. #cmworld

@kelcesarz

@CMIContent @crestodina That’s a brilliant piece of content! Dynamic, engaging, and unpredictable. Love it! #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

@amywhiggins A3 That’s where learning to ask those ice-breakers helps. Focus on making them comfy enough to start talking. #CMWorld

@magriebler

@lindadessau We’ll meet eventually, Linda. Let’s make it happen! #cmworld

@crestodina

@crestodina True! Anything to get your foot in the door and start a conversation. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

Q4: What are some other ways you can use event content to connect – especially to “undiscovered” influencers? #CMWorld

@crestodina @lindadessau Challenge accepted. I’ll make sure this happens! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@zuulaconsulting so true…if you only use video you only get a certain subset of people and may miss out on some gr8 thinkers. #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@RtMixMktg I’ll buy this b/c I usually miss events but I’m tuned in hard core to recaps and commentary. #cmworld

@bldchris

@crestodina We did meet, LOL! – obviously I made a huge impression on you 😉 #cmworld

@lindadessau

A4: The 2 tricks to making connections at a conference: 1) Research before the show. 2) Follow up after! #cmworld

@crestodina

@lttlewys Very true. Everyone wants to feel like they are a part of something. That’s at our core as humans. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@bldchris Exactly. And the speakers are usually happy to provide the distribution #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

A3: Quoting other experts from the event-Showing I’m interested in their POVs, listening, and engaging with them online and off. #CMWorld

@kelcesarz

@RtMixMktg A3 Yes! I always appreciate that, esp. if I couldn’t attend. #CMWorld Share the knowledge!

@magriebler

@ThinkSEM That’s how you uncover the true nuggets of insight, not just the info you know you need to capture! #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

@RtMixMktg I did this for ContentJam! #CMWorld http://www.suebrady5.com/dont-read-this-post-unless-you-want-to-write-better-copy/

@SueBrady

Side note: I love Q4 because there are so many “experts” at #CMWorld that aren’t well-known (yet). Lots of untapped talent at events!

@cmcphillips

A4 met someone once who asked customers (not able to attend) what sessions they wanted her to attend and then she live blogged them #cmworld

@tracibrowne

A3: Photo mash ups and blogging seem to be the most common #cmworld

@CrowdContent

@bldchris @RtMixMktg Tom does a great job summarizing Twitter chats! #cmworld

@lindadessau

A4: A few ways to stay connected: 1. Send a handwritten note 2. Do a G+ Hangout 3. Form a mastermind group with new friends #cmworld

@crestodina

@CMIContent A4 Trawl the heck out of the event hashtag. Live tweet & look for people you don’t know. Follow, elevate, learn. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

A4 – Here’s an idea – Scan the hashtag in weeks leading up, connect & engage, then plan for on-site meetups with attendees. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

@tracibrowne Yes! #Introverts have insight, too! #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

A4: If you want to meet the “undiscovered” influencers, you have to meet a lot of people. Hang out in groups. Get introduced. #cmworld

@crestodina

A4) When I go #CMWorld 2015 🙂 I will seek out the newcomers and ask questions. Then I’ll stay in touch afterward! #cmworld

@bldchris

A4: I love the power of the hashtag to discover influencers at an event #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

A4: Follow the event hashtag, note insightful Tweeters. Reach out to them via the event Twitter stream, plan to meet at show. #cmworld

@pisarose

Content #marketing is hard, make it easier! “The Content #Analytics Tool To Rule Them All?” http://mklnd.com/1uvushG by @teedubya #cmworld

@anametrix

I didn’t know it when I first met them, but I consider @amywhiggins and @BethCochran to be undiscovered influencers! Met at #cmworld 🙂

@crestodina

@crestodina A4 Follow up w/a call or handwritten note, of course! Gotta buy a pen … #CMWorld

@magriebler

A4 – And part 2 could be do a post-event follow up and compare pre-show thoughts with post-show thoughts. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

everyone stop screaming, i’m here, finally #cmworld

@ohrohin

+1 MT @pisarose A4: Follow the event hashtag, note insightful Tweeters. Reach out via event Twitter stream, plan to meet at show #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

A4: Follow the hashtags used at events, sometimes the best one isn’t the one being promoted. Follow those and then connect! #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

Great tips! MT @pisarose: A4: Follow the event hashtag, note insightful Tweeters. Plan to meet at show. #cmworld

@orbiteers

@crestodina @BethCochran awh shucks…thanks Andy! #CMWorld

@amywhiggins

I have to say, I’m not a fan of tweeting soundbites from presentations…you lose too much context…the whole is important #cmworld

@tracibrowne

A4: Oh, and ask other influencers to introduce! #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

A4: Use the event app to find people/interests before you get there. Have a (fluid) plan. #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

@Magnani_Dot_Com Great point! I’ve even found great people through the “wrong” (misspelled or not quite right) hashtags! #cmworld

@bldchris

@bldchris That’s it, think positive! (not if but when) #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

Lurking in #CMWorld chat… 🙂

@DaveWebb

@crestodina Truethere’s nothing better than face2face interaction! If thiscan’t be achieved, still stay authentic via #socialmedia. #cmworld

@IAmTakingCharge

Want influencers to spend time with you at a live event.. Invest YOUR time before the event listening & learning about them!#CMWorld

@orbiteers

@DaveWebb Hi Dave! Jump on in! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@amywhiggins A3 Too often we worry abt our comfort level. Gotta make others feel at home too. #CMWorld

@magriebler

A4 Event apps have to contain more than name, rank and serial number to be effective networking tools though #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@CMIContent A4 Don’t get trapped in your clique. Look for folks who aren’t surrounded by ppl. Help them. Intro them. Be generous. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

@DaveWebb I see you, Dave… 🙂 #cmworld

@bldchris

A4: Be brave, introduce yourself…. take pictures! Send out invites via hashtag to meet for coffee in the am or wine after #CMWorld

@lttlewys

@CMIContent @DaveWebb prefers to lurk…lol #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

A4: Publish your own take on the event afterward (using event #), everyone has a unique perspective. #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

Love topic #CMworld exactly why I wrote this today Community + Relationships = Influencer http://buff.ly/1t9NOMG http://t.co/9WzSxowVyJ

@iSocialFanz

@cmcphillips Ohh, I love making event plans!! I usually have Plan A and Plan B!! #CMWorld

@lttlewys

@TrainingCEO @DaveWebb That’s fine too. 🙂 #CMWorld

@CMIContent

A4 Also good to connect on other platforms; more opps for learning abt. new contacts. #CMWorld

@magriebler

A4: Find a common fun activity to meet people. Like a photobooth. Ask questions why they are waiting to take photos #CMWorld

@amywhiggins

Great! MT @lttlewys A4: Be brave, introduce yourself…take pictures! Send out invites via hashtag to meet for coffee or wine after #cmworld

@bldchris

@tracibrowne Great point, Traci. What else is important? #CMWorld

@CMIContent

Get out of your comfort zone- you’ll never make that one important connection unless you do. #CMWorld @CMIContent

@ThinkMoncur

A2. @CMIContent Collab w/ audience, using name tags as convo starters is fun way to generate content ideas, and take photos, video. #CMWorld

@ajlovesya

Most events have a hashtag-so you can go engage w/ influencers you might not be connected w/ on/offline, yet- makes the intro easy! #cmworld

@kelcesarz

@orbiteers Love your guys post today on content hubs… I’m doing that today for brands with huge success! Great post! #CMworld

@iSocialFanz

@magriebler @mikemyers614 yes because sometimes their expertise isn’t related to the content you’re looking to get #cmworld

@karrabarron

Q5: Can you use your content to connect with industry thought leaders? What are some right (or wrong) ways to do this? #CMWorld

A4: event specific apps are great for establishing connection w/ influencers beforehand.–> set up a face2face meeting for during. #cmworld

@CrowdContent

A4: People crowd around the big names at events but there are lots of smart people there who will be recognized later #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

@cmtrapolino @CMIContent LOVE! Make the intros, help someone out = friend for life! #CMWorld

@amywhiggins

I’m also a fan of the #megaselfie where you mention everyone. People love it. 🙂 #cmworld http://t.co/jzm3GyxSBU

@crestodina

A5: I’ve done this thru interviews for blog posts. They share the content, you make a new connex. Win win., #CMWorld

@SueBrady

@cmtrapolino @CMIContent A wise person once told us to look for the person standing alone. Great connections. Great karma. #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

A2. @CMIContent If want to collab with speakers, ask them to answer one question, tweet it, video, and/or do blog round up #CMWorld

@ajlovesya

A5: Content is the PERFECT time to connect with thought leaders. Ask for their input, their take on it, so much more! #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

@amywhiggins and introverts. Others may hesitate because they have a “what’s in it for me” attitude, which can be understandable #CMWorld

@karrabarron

People participating in events want to be part of the solution. They want to feel welcome & be given a chance to be heard. #CMWorld

@IAmTakingCharge

@CMIContent need to be a way to include areas of interest/questions want answers to/expertise so it’s easier to find each other #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@cmtrapolino Yes! This can go such a long way in enriching their experience but also in enriching yours. #CMWorld

@amymersch

@SueBrady Great point. Making it about them instead of just you makes people want to participate more. #cmworld

@KittermanMG

A5: Respect their time. The easier you make it, the more likely they are to collaborate. The “ask” should set time expectations. #cmworld

@crestodina

@amywhiggins @CMIContent It’s so true. We’ve all been the awkward new kid. When someone saves us, we NEVER forget ‘em. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

@amywhiggins @magriebler Or you can try some of these: http://bit.ly/TheToastIce #CMWorld

@ThinkMoncur

A5 Right: Generate original, thought provoking content. Share in spaces they are. Wrong: Hound their handles until they follow you. #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

@Phil_Mershon You should be on our #CMWorld chat right now! Talking content & networking! 🙂

@CMIContent

Help evangelize influencers content by Curating,Promoting,& Sharing!When u give w/o asking for anything they will notice!#CMworld

@iSocialFanz

A5: Be specific about your request: “Do you have a minute to give me your $.02 on social media ethics?” 95% will agree to do it! #cmworld

@crestodina

A5) I find the best way to connect with anyone a solo basis is by asking questions. You can do this with and/or via content itself. #cmworld

@bldchris

Networking success: Do your homework, be engaged, be ready w/great 10 second self-intro & remember their names! #CMWorld –

@DTNEtiquette

@RtMixMktg Everyone has to start somewhere! #CMWorld

@amymersch

@crestodina advice for continuing to follow up? I have the hardest time remembering to check-in with ppl I met every few months #CMWorld

@karrabarron

@CMIContent A5: Don’t be self-centered! Start by acknowledging their great #content before you try to share your own. #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

Using content to connect is great for a conversation starter at an event! It will help avoid the awkward silences & break the ice! #cmworld

@kelcesarz

A5: Make contribution easy. Don’t ask for a guest post. Start small. Ask for an answer to a ? for an expert roundup. #cmworld

@pisarose

A5: To connect well with influencers (via content), accurately capture their message (& make it compelling visually + in writing) #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

@amymersch Being an influencer isn’t about audience size, it’s about kindness. Sincerity makes an imprint on the heart. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

Great tips #CMWorld I stopped Networking for a while, I have to go back to track 🙂

@mamlatinaphilly

A5: Most thought leaders want to help, someone helped them at some point (and the good ones remember). #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

@pisarose Great idea, Shelly! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

A5 Be a giver, not a taker; figure out what you have to offer. #CMWorld Generosity again!

@magriebler

Being authentic is important. If you create content for the sake of reaching out to an influencer, just make sure you’re genuine. #CMWorld

@ThinkMoncur

A5) “Wrong” would be asking someone to give first before offering something of value. That goes for any relationship. #cmworld

@bldchris

@tracibrowne brilliant customer-oriented thinking! #CMWorld

@karrabarron

@karrabarron @crestodina I have that same problem – get really busy with work and neglect the networking follow-up (the fun stuff) #cmworld

@dwheeler11

@cmtrapolino Perfectly said. #CMWorld

@amymersch

A5. @CMIContent Practice what you preach! Make introductions and be helpful first. Also lead with what’s in it for them #CMWorld

@ajlovesya

A5 Do something for them before you as something from them 🙂 #cmworld

@ardath421

A5: I find that most thought leaders and influencers are very approachable. That’s probably why they’re influential… 🙂 #cmworld

@crestodina

A5 – You can’t ASSUME they will, but by being respectful, courteous, friendly, helpful, and engaged with THEIR content, maybe. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

@SueBrady Absolutely. Your audience will also love it because of the new insight the interviewee has to offer. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@RtMixMktg Great point! Keep the right context, show you know their work and thoughts. #cmworld

@bldchris

@DTNEtiquette Remembering names is a gift! Even with the most well-intended people. #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@crestodina Sure, when do you want to…oh, see, you got me 🙂 #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

@CMIContent Believe it or not, I’ve actually had great success offering to ghostwrite for contributors as well. #cmworld

@pisarose

A5. It sounds like we should talk to influencers like they are real, live people. #crazytalk #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

@crestodina if someone wants or thinks they are influential in 2014 it’s because they are approachable.. times have changed! #CMworld

@iSocialFanz

@CMIContent @amywhiggins @lttlewys @crestodina hi guys! Joining in late (recurring weekly meeting overlaps w/#cmworld)

@SFerika

@dwheeler11 @karrabarron Follow up afterwards is sooooo important. Even if it’s weeks later. If nothing else, connect on LinkedIn! #CMWorld

@crestodina

@cmtrapolino @amymersch Yes! It’s not about the vanity metrics. It’s how much influence they have in their community. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

@Magnani_Dot_Com Insanity! #cmworld

@KittermanMG

A5. @CMIContent In general, make the ask very small/easy at first. One question they can answer in a way that’s easiest for them #CMWorld

@ajlovesya

@SFerika @CMIContent @amywhiggins @lttlewys @crestodina oh hey there! Glad you made it 🙂 #cmworld

@orbiteers

Tip: spell their name in your head – visualize it & it will stick much longer! – #CMWorld

@DTNEtiquette

@ThinkSEM @amymersch Precisely. Influence is about driving action, not collecting followers like Pokemon. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

@ajlovesya @CMIContent A5 I love how we’re talking about good manners today. #CMWorld They still matter.

@magriebler

@ajlovesya @CMIContent I totally agree Allison. Make it super simple and no one will decline… #cmworld

@crestodina

@ajlovesya Agree! Great thinking. #CMWorld

@CMIContent

Good idea > MT @pisarose @CMIContent I’ve actually had great success offering to ghostwrite for contributors as well. #cmworld

@mikemyers614

@iSocialFanz @crestodina Right! I feel comfortable speaking for us little guys. We’re less enamored with those on mountaintops. #cmworld

@bldchris

@karrabarron @crestodina I set up reminders in Nimble to follow-up with folks regularly. #CMworld

@SFerika

@IanCleary @cmtrapolino You’re one of them, Ian! #CMWorld

@crestodina

A5 if interviewing, ask them if they prefer to do via email or phone…everyone has a preference #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@DTNEtiquette going to try that too. I do a rhyme in my head w/ their name and that usually works! #cmworld

@orbiteers

@mikemyers614 You have to prove your writing chops, of course. Pitching a killer story angle doesn’t hurt. @CMIContent #cmworld

@pisarose

@cmtrapolino @amymersch Couldn’t have said it any better ourselves. Action is the key word there. #CMWorld

@ThinkSEM

Be kind, be real, be respectful…all else will follow – #CMWorld

@SFerika

Q6: How should content be used differently before, during or after an event? What about months after an event? #CMWorld

@pisarose @CMIContent 1,000 X yes! #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

A5. going to paraphrase swedish pop singer robyn here: “i’ve got news for you / influencers got feelings too” #cmworld

@ohrohin

A5: Ask questions, respect time, highlight THEIR work and how it applies to yours. #CMWorld

@DaveWebb

@iSocialFanz @jaybaer @garyvee @TedRubin Smart! (You, and them!) #CMWorld

@CMIContent

A6: Before, get people excited and enaging. During, get that buzz going! After, curate, thank and share the love 🙂 #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

A6 Always great to be helpful, promote the event, share insights, etc. #CMWorld

@magriebler

@DTNEtiquette Nice life lessons! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

A6: Before event – arouse curiosity, After event – give next steps from what was shared at event > Personalize! #cmworld

@ardath421

A6: During: Just turn on a camera & ask people questions. After: Mention collaborators when you share. #cmworld

@crestodina

@magriebler @ajlovesya @CMIContent We’re all so bombarded/distracted, manners and courtesy matter more (AND are rarer) than ever! #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

A5 tip…don’t ask people who make a living writing to write for for free…think abt how people earn their living when requesting #cmworld

@tracibrowne

Great tip! @SueBrady: A5: I’ve done this thru interviews for blog posts. They share the content, you make a new connex. Win win., #CMWorld

@nickpham

A6 – It needs to be a natural progression, just like the learning & thought process participants go through during the same stages. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

A6: This is the idea an event is 365 days/year. It should be. A lot happens at events, you just need a strategy. #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

@amywhiggins @magriebler how do you use them at the office? For visitors or in everyday meetings? #CMWorld

@karrabarron

A6. before = build hype and educateduring = document insights and notable eventsafter = round-ups, recaps, and stats #cmworld

@ohrohin

A6: Focus on listening at the event to find what your audience should/wants to know. Then post relevant content around that. #cmworld

@kelcesarz

Conversations need to be authentic and genuine. Focus on building real #relationships & not opportunistic relationships. #cmworld

@IAmTakingCharge

A6) After, you might generate something evergreen that can be reshared or do follow ups as things change w/something trend based. #cmworld

@bldchris

A6: Pro tip: Videotape event soundbites as evergreen. Use content later to support blogging or other efforts. #CMWorld #contentmarketing

@JulieY

A6: It depends on the goals you are looking to accomplish during those times. It may be to raise awareness before, inform during…#CMWorld

@ThinkMoncur

@Magnani_Dot_Com Yes – #CMWorld lives 365 days a year!

@CMIContent

A6: Collaborators improve the quality AND the reach. Almost every post would benefit from an expert quote! #cmworld

@crestodina

A6: Remind of the most popular/well attended information can help engage attendees long after event (or encourage next year’s att.) #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

And recap afterward. #CMWorld

@ThinkMoncur

@CMIContent A5 This should be based on funnel. Offer value, begin seduction. Elevate your prospect. Offer more value. Close. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

A6 Celebrate new relationships w/RTs, comments, tips. Promote each other. #CMWorld

@magriebler

@JulieY Nice, Julie! Thanks! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@kelcesarz Kelli, that’s such a good point. What would our READERS benefit from hearing, not just our own interests! #cmworld

@lindadessau

@tracibrowne while i do agree mostly, there are exceptions i’ll make–like if i look up to the person who’s asked me to guestblog #cmworld

@ohrohin

Smart > MT @tracibrowne Don’t ask people who make a living writing to write for for free…think abt how people earn their living #cmworld

@mikemyers614

@karrabarron @amywhiggins Not so much in day-to-day; mostly when I meet new folks or see people are clearly nervous. #CMWorld

@magriebler

A6 I like to note what’s asked at Q&A and later give my take…or if I disagree w/something speaker said I can use that in future #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@CMIContent A6 This should be based on funnel. Offer value, begin seduction. Elevate your prospect. Offer more value. Close. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

A6. Before: Intros/guest speaker additions/courses During: Show floor pics/giveaways After: Round up/preview next year #RinseRepeat #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

A6: Events are also the place to brainstorm on NEW content ideas. Sometimes the magic happens afterwards in the follow up… #cmworld

@crestodina

@mikemyers614 I also love recaps of the smaller-attended sessions with a killer speaker. Show ppl what they missed! #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

@tracibrowne Great idea – gives us time to think through our answers #introvertsunite! #cmworld

@lindadessau

A6b) After an event there should be a plethora (<- yes, that!) of others’ content that you can curate & share. Be a spunge. #cmworld

@bldchris

@ardath421 Thanks for dropping in, Ardath! You’re on my list of people I’d like to collaborate with someday… #cmworld

@crestodina

@crestodina So important! Make sure you’re sharing real insights, not just your own opinions. #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

@CMIContent Any good event does 😉 #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

Q6: Before: To entice and intrigue During: To inform and explain After: To provide utility Always: To solve problems #CMWorld

@ScribbleEngage

@ohrohin as with everything, there are always exceptions #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@zuulaconsulting @crestodina And when in doubt about the difference, do a gut check – invite others to discuss! #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

[I do know how to spell “sponge.”] Lol. Misspelled tweets are forever…. #cmworld

@bldchris

Event content & User content is often great content that your community valued! You must #Upcycle it! #CMworld http://t.co/MhXMyvZXL9

@iSocialFanz

A6. everyone and their mom will be livetweeting from an event–how can you heighten or bring value to the experience via social? #cmworld

@ohrohin

If you work in news/media read my answer to what are some great #analytics tools for news websites? @Quora http://qr.ae/xfgl8 #cmworld

@RyMontano

A6: Don’t just focus on yourself or your brand. Share the love-if someone makes a great/relevant point share it w/ your community. #cmworld

@kelcesarz

A6: If you’re writing a post-event roundup, contact the people you’re mentioning before publishing. Ask for more input… #cmworld

@crestodina

@tracibrowne @CMIContent easy to add these to in event app. #eventprofs just need to tell vendor what they want to achieve #cmworld

@karrabarron

A5: Don’t think about “content”. Just be a real person. 1/2 of my tweets w thought leaders have nothing to do with business. #cmworld

@ChrisKimSW

@CMIContent @tracibrowne Yes! Polite dissent is a beautiful thing. Spurs conversation and engagement. #cmworld

@bldchris

Ditto! MT @crestodina: @ardath421 Thx for dropping in, Ardath! You’re on my list of people I’d like to collaborate with someday… #cmworld

A6: Use the phone. #cmworld

@crestodina

@cmcphillips Great idea! Have you guys done this (I’d love to see it)? #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

A6. It’s about information–if someone can’t be at an event, bring them the good stuff through social media. #cmworld

@ABTEKUSA

@crestodina That’s a great idea! Separate yourself from the same sound bites – provide more value to readers. #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

Q7: Aside from personal connections, how can your business benefit from content used for networking? #CMWorld

A6: Provide presenters with personalized, shareable content about their session. #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

@cmtrapolino @crestodina Good call. We’re all smart, but we’re a heck of a lot smarter together. #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

@crestodina @ardath421 You’re on mine, too. Let’s make that happen! 🙂 #cmworld

@ardath421

@CMIContent A7 Oh man, if your salespeople aren’t repurposing your networking content from events, they should be! #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

When people contribute to your content, they’re 43% more likely to share it. (I made up that stat, but it sounds nice…) #cmworld

@crestodina

@pisarose – any time – just let me know 🙂 #cmworld

@ardath421

A7: blackmail? @CMIContent #CMWorld

@Brewbom

A7: Businesses have the most to gain from their content connections especially prior to an event to set up meetings. #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

A7: Look at the prospects in the funnel and collaborate with them on content. Almost NO ONE does this. But it works! #cmworld

@crestodina

Making those connections may increase the amount of advocates you have to share/like/ and comment. #CMWorld You can’t go wrong there!

@ThinkMoncur

A7) Brand awareness in the offline realm, cross pollination of audience and reach…. #cmworld

@bldchris

@Brewbom @CMIContent lol. #cmworld

A7 – Those types of content deliver a lot of utility for your community. Helps build reputation as a resource & establish trust. #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

At an event you aren’t only representing yourself,but your business as well. People ask what you do for a reason.Be mindful of that.#cmworld

@kelcesarz

A7 Keeps your learning, keeps you from making assumptions. We all benefit from input! #CMWorld

@magriebler

@nickpham Knew it! #conspiracies #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

A7 doesn’t everyone want to do business with companies who take the time to connect personally rather than just for a sale? #cmworld

@tracibrowne

A7: Very few marketers think to collaborate with sales prospects. Interview them. Survey them. Publish them! …they love it. #cmworld

@crestodina

@CMIContent Glad you think the video tip is helpful for this community, thanks! #CMWorld #contentmarketing

@JulieY

A7. whitepapers, one-pagers, decks, landing pages–possibilities are almost endless. #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

A6. Before ->to introduce yourself During ->get informed & think of your next action steps After -> lessons learned & networking #CMWorld

@IAmTakingCharge

@SFerika @crestodina thx for reco. Do you tend to follow up via email or on social? & do u think social works just fine? #CMWorld

@bldchris @crestodina That’s why we have these chats! 🙂 #CMWorld

@CMIContent

A8: Trick Question: Orbit Media! #CMWorld

@SueBrady

@crestodina You had me at “wine.” #CMWorld

@amymersch

A7: What about using personal networking cards that are a creative riff on your company’s brand? Personal branding. #cmworld

@pisarose

@bldchris @crestodina Stealing is the sincerest form of flattery! #CMWorld

@magriebler

Q8: @toprank does a great job of creating content with collaborators that promotes events. @leeodden knows how to build buzz! #cmworld

@crestodina

A8 – Well, @CMIContent seems to be doing a pretty good job. 🙂 #cmworld

@gShiftLabs

@CMIContent @crestodina I usually get my takeaways in more abstract form. Today I’m getting straight up instructions. 🙂 Thanks. #cmworld

@bldchris

A8: I’m a huge fan of all that @LeeOdden and the @TopRank team do around event collaboration. #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

A7: We’ve explored webinars with guest hosts who are connections from events. Can guest host for them in return. #cmworld

@CrowdContent

@crestodina It’s important to have permission of those you are writing about before publishing their names. It is called courtesy. #CMworld

@IAmTakingCharge

@lindadessau @gShiftLabs Well, thank you so much! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

A8: @IanCleary of @RazorSocial is another great collaborator. And @HeidiCohen is the master of the curated roundup! #cmworld

@crestodina

@ardath421 Will do, Ardath! We have an exciting project in the works that would be a perfect fit for you. #CMWorld

@pisarose

Q8: @lauraposey is a master at finding every drop of value in content #CMWorld

@zuulaconsulting

Q8: @LinkedInMktg does a great job with sharing content for networking and offline connections. #CMWorld cc @JasonMillerCA @kokasexton

@amywhiggins

@gShiftLabs @CMIContent I second that! #CMWorld

@amywhiggins

I start to twitch when I see the word “steal” #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@pisarose Sounds fun! #cmworld

@ardath421

A8: Also, great thought leaders such as @annhandley and @brennermichael who call us and ASK how they can help. Pretty amazing. #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

@IAmTakingCharge @crestodina Yikes. I don’t usually do this when I write round-ups post event…#CMWorld

@SueBrady

@tracibrowne I knew I liked you. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

@tracibrowne Just have you mind change it to “borrow” #cmworld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

@amywhiggins @LinkedInMktg @JasonMillerCA @kokasexton Agree! #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

@cmcphillips Absolutely. Just watch how @annhandley and @BrennerMichael do it. Thoughtful. Generous. Collaborative. #cmworld

@crestodina

@Magnani_Dot_Com @tracibrowne Repurpose! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@SueBrady @IAmTakingCharge @crestodina If you’re rounding up tweets, I feel like consent is implied; they tweeted publicly. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

@zuulaconsulting @lauraposey Great! Thank you for this! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@tracibrowne “steal” should be replaced by borrow. We all have gr8 ideas – key to share, learn, expand on other’s ideas #CMWorld

@amywhiggins

@cmtrapolino But still a good way to let them know it’s coming and entice to share 🙂 @SueBrady @IAmTakingCharge @crestodina #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

It’s only repurposing if you’ve asked permission first @CMIContent @Magnani_Dot_Com #cmworld

@tracibrowne

Mea culpa. I was being facetious when I used the word “steal.” Pros don’t steal, right, guys? 🙂 #cmworld

@bldchris

@amywhiggins @tracibrowne I guess the difference between steal and borrow is the citation, right? It makes all the difference. #cmworld

@crestodina

@cmtrapolino @IAmTakingCharge @crestodina I’ll write up key points from sessions & give credit & let them know after I publish. #CMWorld

@SueBrady

We’ll spend the last 10 minutes asking @crestodina questions on #contentmarketing. Ask questions now! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@tracibrowne @Magnani_Dot_Com Correct! Recycle? Take an idea and make it your own. Differentiate and put your spin on it. #CMWorld

@CMIContent

People don’t want to feel that they are being taken advantage.That rule applies in personal, love & business relationships. #CMWorld #BeReal

@IAmTakingCharge

Agree > MT @amywhiggins @LinkedInMktg does a great job sharing content for networking/offline conn. #CMWorld @JasonMillerCA @kokasexton

@mikemyers614

I hope to collaborate with all of you at #cmworld next year! Let’s make videos, yearbooks and podcasts together…

@crestodina

@mikemyers614 Not yet…but stay tuned. 🙂 Something in the works! #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

@crestodina re: citation…it depends, copying and attributing without permission is still stealing @amywhiggins #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@crestodina Yes! We definitely want to be part of this! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@cmcphillips @leeodden @toprank Agreed– so many awesome #slideshares that collect event speakers’ wisdom #CMworld

@SFerika

@CMIContent @tracibrowne @Magnani_Dot_Com I would call it “improvement”. Take an idea, contact the author, improve it. #cmworld

@daniel3ub

Again, if you’re not making friends, you’re doing it wrong. #cmworld

@crestodina

A8: In Chicago we have @FleetFeetChgo. They get an A+. #RunChi is their baby. They write Tweet, show love & draw runners in droves. #CMWorld

@manamica

@CMIContent @tracibrowne @Magnani_Dot_Com or even “upcycle” 😉 — take the idea further! #CMworld

@SFerika

Q for @crestodina – There are so many offline networking opportunities – how do you decide when/where to engage? #cmworld

@bldchris

@crestodina @amywhiggins well thank you Andy! You’re amazing. So glad #cmworld fostered our encounter!

@BethCochran

@SFerika I love that Erika…”upcycle” @CMIContent @Magnani_Dot_Com #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@CMIContent @crestodina Worth retweeting #CMWorld

@Magnani_Dot_Com

Q @crestodina: what is the one content marketing practice you use/create at every event you attend? #cmworld

@CrowdContent

@cmcphillips I do love intrigue. #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

@manamica @FleetFeetChgo Great idea! Thanks, Mana! So glad you could join us for a bit! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@CrowdContent @crestodina Oooh, nice question! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@crestodina, if you could only pick one, what would be your top reco to truly achieve content excellence in social? #CMworld

@allieingalls

@tracibrowne @SFerika @Magnani_Dot_Com That Erika…she always says the right stuff. #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@crestodina Do you think this is an extroverts game or can introverts succeed in event networking? Any ideas for them? #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

@BethCochran @amywhiggins We never would have met without #cmworld …we’ll always have Cleveland.

@crestodina

@RtMixMktg Good Q! #cmworld

@bldchris

@RtMixMktg @crestodina All of the introverts on this chat just favorited this tweet to watch @crestodina’s answer! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@crestodina Where’d you come up with the idea for the video Q&A thing? Fun. #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

@crestodina @BethCochran @amywhiggins <3 #CMWorld

@CMIContent

And to be clear…I know none of you actually meant “steal” I just get twitchy and nervous when I hear it #badexperiences #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@amywhiggins @magriebler thanks guys. Love the idea of continuing to “break the ice” even with staff you’ve worked with for awhile #CMWorld

@karrabarron

@CMIContent @RtMixMktg @crestodina You know us all too well. #CMWorld

@amymersch

@CMIContent #contentmarketing lets you show love. @FleetFeetChgo has lots of love to share. They merged the two and it worked out. #cmworld

@manamica

@tracibrowne Fair enough! #cmworld

@bldchris

@amymersch @RtMixMktg @crestodina And ourselves. 😉 #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@mikemyers614 I’m not sure where the idea came from. I wanted to let people guide the content themselves… #cmworld

@crestodina

@CMIContent @RtMixMktg @crestodina Why yes we did. Say it loud, say it proud. #introvertsrule #CMWorld

@magriebler

@tracibrowne Just do what I do….change the subject to bacon. #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

@crestodina @BethCochran ahh Cleveland. So many opportunities so much fun! #CMworld

@amywhiggins

@magriebler @CMIContent @RtMixMktg @crestodina Solidarity. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

I figured! MT @CMIContent: @crestodina All of the introverts on this chat just favorited this tweet to watch @crestodina’s answer! #CMWorld

@RtMixMktg

@tracibrowne Always a good reminder to be clear & careful in our word choices! #CMWorld

@magriebler

@DaveWebb @bldchris introverts can absolutely succeed. Our good friend @ginidietrich is an introvert and crushes it! #cmworld

@orbiteers

Introverts often have better networking experiences. We don’t walk away w/a pocket full of cards, just a few solid connections #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@crestodina @mikemyers614 Some of the best ideas are the random ideas that can grow and find purpose. #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

I’ll answer from my side. I set some targeted networking and content goals and am happy if I hit them #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

@tracibrowne Great point! #CMWorld

@CMIContent

@cmcphillips @crestodina Just going to say that. Exactly! #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

@orbiteers @ginidietrich is just awesome 😀 #cmworld

@TrainingCEO

@tracibrowne That makes sense! Almost a quality over quantity approach? #cmworld

@bldchris

@crestodina I am skimming the feed– looks like a GREAT #cmworld chat. So bummed I missed this — but looking forward to the transcript

@michelelinn

As an introvert at an event I manage my energy carefully and take a time out whenever I need to #cmworld

@lindadessau

Yes MT @tracibrowne Introverts often have better networking experiences. Don’t walk away w/ pocket of cards, few solid connections #cmworld

@RtMixMktg

@TrainingCEO @RtMixMktg I think content collaboration can make networking easier for introverts. It’s an excuse to break ice. #CMWorld

@crestodina

@bldchris @tracibrowne Definitely quality > quantity. I look for people I want to talk to again later, and that’s not everyone. #CMWorld

@cmtrapolino

@tracibrowne We’re better at listening & asking questions, I think. #CMWorld

@magriebler

@lindadessau And sit on your rolling suitcase. (Most brilliant idea ever.) #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

Nice Andy MT @crestodina @TrainingCEO I think content collaboration can make networking easier for introverts. Excuse to break ice. #CMWorld

@RtMixMktg

@magriebler @CMIContent @RtMixMktg @crestodina INTROVERTS UNITE! (i mean, um, introverts unite) #CMWorld

@mikemyers614

We should get orange “I hate small talk” shirts for next year 😉 #cmworld

@tracibrowne

Introverts usually go deeper in conversation, building fewer but stronger relationships. As powerful as extraverts, just different. #cmworld

@dwheeler11

@magriebler @tracibrowne Great point! I smell a great blog post idea coming on… #CMWorld

@CMIContent

Yes, best way to save my back 😉 MT @cmcphillips: @lindadessau And your rolling suitcase. (Most brilliant idea ever.) #CMWorld

@lindadessau

@cmcphillips

@tracibrowne Make it a # ?#CMWorld

@mikemyers614

The hardest part is starting the conversation. Content gives you a reason to walk up to people …and make stuff. #cmworld

@crestodina

Thanks @crestodina for the great chat! #cmworld

@CMIContent

@DaveWebb @crestodina Thanks, Dave! Sorry for the heckling to jump in. Just glad to have you here! See you next week? #CMWorld

I would pay money to watch an extrovert try to act like an introvert @DaveWebb @magriebler #cmworld

@tracibrowne

@tracibrowne @DaveWebb @magriebler Do you have to be one or the other? I have tendencies for both. #CMWorld

@cmcphillips

@cmicontent Thank you! I missed my #cmworld friends! 🙁

@Plumlytics

@magriebler @tracibrowne I agree about the icebreaking. It’s not hard, ‘tho, if actually care & are not all about WIIFM. #CMWorld
