Getting to know a #CMWorld 2017 attendee: Olivia Tharp

Many people have shared their reasons for attending Content Marketing World and each of them is great in its own way, because it reflects each person’s individuality.

Olivia Tharp comes to CMWorld 2017 for the first time and with her she will bring what one of her favorite authors, Paulo Coelho, calls a personal legend. Intrigued? Learn more about why Olivia will be in Cleveland this fall by reading her answers to the questions below:

What is your main reason for attending, and how many years will this make for you?

This is my first time attending Content Marketing World and mainly, I’m looking forward to growing as a professional by learning from industry leaders who have earned their positions through many years of beneficial knowledge and experience. As a young professional, I am always looking to attain new tactics, best practices and ideas from thought leaders in my field as well as in many other diverse marketing fields. I’m also very eager to hear insights from the workshops’ speakers of brand experts marketers, strategists, etc.

How has your career path led you to content marketing?

Growing up, I always had a love of literature. Thus, it was a natural transition to attend similar courses in Strategic Communications, Writing, PR and beyond at The Ohio State University. From there, I took it upon myself to get as much internship experience possible in a variety of diverse companies further narrowing down what career path I will enjoy. That’s how I ended up WRL Advertising, an integrated Marketing Communications agency. With the right blend of experience and skills, our team here of creative, dynamic and tech-savvy industry professionals with an eclectic company culture are committed to generating positive results for all our clients.

If you had the opportunity for a do-over, what career would you be in today?

While it would be nice to have an ‘undo’ button in life, I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, and whether it’s in your personal or professional life, never regret any decision you’ve ever made. I am right where I’m meant to be.

What is your biggest content marketing challenge?

A challenge I run into when creating content is being too analytical and critical of my own work. I believe in every single one of my clients and their respective company purposes, therefore, I want to create the best outcomes for each and every project I deliver. However, while this challenge may hinder me personally in the short term, I think of it as an overall benefit in the long run because I learn to pay better attention to detail as well as better narrow down the right content for the right audience(s).

What is your favorite book and why?

I have too many favorite books to count, but one that sticks out in my mind is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Not only do I love the hispanic culture because of the passion that exudes throughout the people and their literature, but the novel was about discovering your own Personal Legend – what you have always wanted to accomplish – which helped me through what I was happening in my life at the time. Coelho writes “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” I truly believe that. This book narrates the journey of a young boy in search of treasure and his deeper purpose in life. Thus, with this core theme in mind, The Alchemist helped me too discover my own Personal Legend. I would highly recommend it.

If you could meet one person at CMWorld 2017, who would it be?

Honestly, I would be happy to meet any one of the high powered female speakers who, through hard work and determination, worked their way up to become leaders in their respective companies. One day I aspire to do the same.

Who is someone you’d encourage to come to CMWorld 2017?

I would encourage Teresa Fox, Vice President for Marketing and Communications at Walsh University, to attend CMW. A recent conversation, she expressed her interest in wanting to come in past years, yet never found the chance. So, I’d say to her that there’s no time like the present

Are you working on any fun projects you’d like to share with our community?

Recently, I hosted a Webinar for my client, Ceramic Tile Distributors Association (CTDA) on Social Media Trends in the Tile Industry. In this Webinar, I spoke on how how beneficial social media is for business and how it can be best utilized to benefit their organization and its members’ businesses.

Social media training provides educational tactics such as customized messaging and optimal posting times to clients or companies who are interested in learning more about using different channels and how I can help our clients best manage their social accounts.
